How To Get A Real Estate License California

If you are interested in obtaining a real estate license in California, then you will have to satisfy a series of guidelines set out by the state. While the rules are not excessive or overly stringent, you may still find them challenging to meet. That said, if you cannot meet California real estate license requirements, chances are you should not be trying to work as a real estate broker, let alone start a business dedicated to this activity.

Basic Real Estate License - California Requirements

In order to get your real estate license in California, there are some critical things that you will need to have lined up before you can sit for the exam. This includes meeting US residency requirements. Each candidate for a broker's license in California must be a citizen of the United States. If you want to sell real estate in California, but do not live in the state, you must still have a business address within the state. All applicants must submit a set of classifiable fingerprints. You must be at least 18 years old and you cannot have a criminal background, or anything else that might indicate dishonesty.

Finding Accredited Degree Programs and Schools

If you have never worked in real estate sales, it will be impossible for you to even sit for a real estate exam. Typically, you will need at least two years of sales experience or a four year degree in real estate sales. Therefore, it is very important to find a legitimate college that offers an accredited degree in real estate. Alternatively, if you have worked part time in real estate sales, you may be able to gain some credit towards the four years experience requirement that will reduce the amount of college credits required.

Scheduling and Sitting for Your Licensing Exam

Once you satisfy your educational/experience requirements for obtaining a California real estate license, you will be able to schedule an appointment for your exam. While you are waiting to take this exam, you will be well served by preparing for it as best you can. Among other things you should:

• Make sure that you are familiar with the computerized testing environment

• Understand each area of the test, as well as the information covered

• Connect with other real estate agents in California in order to find out what their challenges are in day to day work.

If you are interested in a real estate license in California, it is very important to know and understand all the requirements. No matter whether you are a resident, or live out of state and want to sell property in California, you will need to have the appropriate licenses. As long as you have a clean background, you should be able to meet the other requirements, and enjoy a good career once you pass your exam. Therefore, if you truly want to be a real estate agent, there is no reason for you to avoid getting your California real estate license.
