Becoming a real estate agent is not easy, but the requirements for entry to the profession are not as exacting or as time consuming as many imposed by other careers with a high earning potential. A thorough understanding of the real estate market and how it operates will open up many doors for you, as people will be eager to use your services to help them sell properties they are trying to dispose of. You may even be operating from the other side, as a buyer's agent helping someone to find the right property or properties.

When you have the intention of becoming a real estate agent, you are aiming for an entry position into a career which can take you so much further. You will be dealing directly with members of the public in either a buying or selling capacity. A really good agent can even be on special terms with professional property investors, and be offered a good deal on any property which the investor can gain control of and make consistent income from over many years. An agent who cultivates these contacts can earn a substantial income without having to risk any of their own money.

One of the great advantages of becoming a real estate agent is that you have a natural progression to the next level, that of being a real estate broker. In the vast majority of states, further learning and another examination will be needed before you can act as a broker in your own right, but you can study for these enhancements while you continue to earn money as an agent. A few states make no distinction, and simply have one all-encompassing real estate license program. In these states, it is simply a case of persuading the right company to give you a chance, or starting up your own operation.

When you become a real estate agent in the modern world, you will need to know and understand computer technology as well as the real estate market. Many properties are sold online, and this percentage will only increase in the years to come as more people gain access to the Internet and become comfortable in the online environment.
